The inspiration for this print began on a hillside at Sacro Monte di Ghiffa, a UNESCO World Heritage site overlooking Lake Maggiore in Italy. It was late afternoon, exactly the kind of light that turns everything soft and still. What struck me wasn’t the view of the lake beyond (though that was glorious), but the way shadows stretched and folded around the magnificent trees that framed the chapels and pathways. It was their quiet geometry that stayed with me. And it’s that feeling, the calm of soft light and shade, that I wanted to carve and capture in the lino.
