Flower Study: Lavender and Green - Linoprint
Flower Study: Lavender and Green - Linoprint
This botanical-inspired piece is a reinterpretation of one of the stunning drawings produced by botanical draughtsman Sydney Parkinson (1745-1771), who travelled on the Endeavour with Captain James Cook. Parkinson’s original depicts the Gardenia taitensis - or the tiare flower. This plant is revered in Polynesian culture and symbolizes purity, love, and beauty. I was lucky enough to travel to Hawai’i when I was working as an archaeological scientist in America in 2002, and I have never forgotten the smell of these beautiful flowers.
