Shore Road
A collection of mixed media paintings inspired by the summer landscape around the seaside town of Swanage and the surrounding Jurassic coastline in Dorset.
"...looking back over the great voyage to the hills and the heaths and the sea, it seems all a dream but most fortunately a dream remembered - and so incredibly varied - I shall never quite get over it." Paul Nash, 1943
A result of many many visits over 22 years, these works recollect the forms and shapes in the Dorset landscape, while focusing on the spatial relationship between the different elements of land, sky and sea. In these pieces, like in much of my recent work, Iām looking to translate my emotional response to a beloved landscape by abstracting it down to its raw forms of shape and colour with the use of expressive marks.
